ILTER network continues to grow

ILTER is pleased to welcome two new member networks, from Bulgaria and Serbia. LTER-Bulgaria's application to join ILTER was approved following a presentation given by Svetla Bratanova at the recent ILTER meeting in Brisbane, Australia. The LTER-Bulgaria comprises seven sites, with a further two potential sites. The sites include forest, wetland and lake sites, coastal and marine areas, a river and a site in Antarctica. LTER Bulgaria has support from the Bulgarian Ministry of Sciences, the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Bulgarian Union of Sciences and the Bulgarian Ecological Society.

The Serbian network's application was given by Michael Mirtl, chair of the LTER-Europe regional network. LTER Serbia comprises 13 sites and one potential long-term socio-ecological research (LTSER) platform. The sites cover a wide range of Serbian ecosystems, and include lowland and upland habitats and river sites. LTER Serbia has been accepted as an member of ILTER on the basis that is submits a second application within two years, demonstrating that it is a fully functional network.

With the addition of these two members, the total number of ILTER member networks is 42. Details of the new networks will be added to this website in due course.
