The Mexican Long Term Ecological Research Network is an academic initiative involving research groups all over the country to promote scientific research of ecological processes over long temporal and broad spatial scales. The goals of the network are:

To gather mexican scientists and promote research fundamental to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems structure and function. Research projects will include long-term and large-spatial scale key ecological variables

To promote multi- and interdiciplinary, scientific collaboration among members

To develop a collaborative effort to seek funds and infrastructure as well to educate new scientists to promote an efficient approach for dealing with local, regional and global environmental problems

To create research programs which ease the interchange and storage of data while creating an accessible database of well-designed and documented long-term observations and experiments for future generations

To provide advice for national institutions on the development of environmental policies which are needed to better conserve, protect and manage ecosystems

To promote an active and coordinated participation of Mexico in the environmental international scientific agenda (ILTER, IGBP, DIVERSITAS, SCOPE, etc.).
