The National LTER Network of Latvia is carrying out long-term research projects focused on problems of human influece and effects of climate warming on community composition, population dynamics and ecosystem proceses.  Long-term ecological research has been performed in Latvia since 1990s. Thanks to the initiative of the US LTER network, financial support from the US NSF and the Latvian Council of Science, Latvia was accepted as a member of ILTER in 2004.
