Chile's first Long-Term Socio-Ecological Research Network is pleased to announce the international symposium and field course, dedicated to "Long-Term Monitoring and Ecosytem Experiments", to be held in La Serena and Fray Jorge National Park & Biosphere Reserve from 17-29 August 2009.
With the financing of the Millennium Scientific Initaitive's Formal Network Program and a Basal Financing Grant (PFB-23) from Chile's National Science and Technology Commission, the event will bring together researchers from Chile and other countries to analyze the advances and needs in Chile to formalize LTSER programs. In addition, the workshop will culminate on August 19th with a celebration in the Fray Jorge National Park & Biosphere Reserve in honor of the 20th anniversary of the experimental research conducted there, which is one of the longest such programs in the Southern Hemisphere. The event will conclude with a field course for graduate students from the US, Chile and other Latin American countries, which will emphasize approaches and methodologies that include large-scale and interdisicplinary efforts to understand the linked human-natural system.
Hosted by the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity, the University of La Serena and the Fray Jorge National Park & Biosphere Reserve Financed by the Millennium Scientific Initiative (MIDEPLAN) and the Basal Financing Program (CONICYT, PFB-23)
Coordinator: Dr. Julio GutiƩrrez (jgutierr@userena.cl)
